User Reviews about Limited Edition Pokemon SoulSilver Version with Figurine
This game is a great remake of the original Pokemon Silver and Gold for the Gameboy Color and may be even better. It adds features from the new Pokemon games and has updated graphics of the Nintendo Ds. Bundled with this game is a figurine of the boxart mascot: Lugia. Also included is the Pokewalker accessory which is a pedometer where you can carry your Pokemon with you wherever you go. -- Wicked Fun, Wallet Smart
I would definitely reccommend this game to pokemon fans. It's extremely better than the original and you even can walk with your pokemon outside of the game. Also the leading pokemon in your party follows you in the game. -- Terrific Game!
Just as Pokémon Red & Blue got the remake treatment on the Gameboy Advance, Gold & Silver got the same luck on the Nintendo DS. Borrowing the engine from Pokémon Platinum but with Gold & Silver's world and characteristics, these old games feel brand new again with HeartGold and SoulSilver, and fit right in with Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.
Time flies when you are having fun. It was 10 years ago that the original Gold and Silver versions were released. A lot of work was put into them to make sure these would be a major upgrade to the original Red/Blue duo. Lots of new features were added such as held items, new pokeballs, berries, new types to balance out the battle system and, of course, new Pokemon. Many people that have been following the series since the beginning consider this to be the best generation of the series, and that's talking now when we are 2 generations later. Needless to say, these remakes were highly expected.
The result is a satisfactory quest through Johto (and Kanto) that older fans of the series will love, and newcomers should embrace. Graphically it looks similar to Diamond and Pearl, albeit a few new gorgeous looking scenes were thrown in. Some things are definitely going to seem obsolete, such as the fact that the newer generation's worlds feel much more wide and open than the earlier ones, the story and dialogue is pretty limited, but other older features that didn't return later such as the cell phone and Apricorn balls are more than welcome.
HG&SS also come bundled with a little device called the Pokéwalker. It's basically a stepometer. It counts steps and gives you "Watts" the more you walk with it. What's fun about it is that you can actually transfer one of your game's Pokémon into the device so it "walks with you". This raises its happiness, gives it experience points, and also gives you the oportunity to catch wild Pokémon, find items, and trade items with friends, and then transfer them back to your HG/SS game. Definitely a little toy that further extends the fun of Pokémon training, even without carrying your DS around.
This game is very recomended if you are into RPGs, collecting, trading, and learning a bunch of random facts about fictional characters. It is even more fun to play with friends, so you can trade, battle with them and share pro tips. -- Going back to Johto.
This is a product, that opened my love to the world of Pokemon again. I enjoyed it playing and it garantes at least 50 hours of pure fun. So much improvements and such cute grafic. Also the perfect game to start into Pokemon... MUST HAVE! -- lugia here i come
It never ceases to amaze me how many Japanese firms subscribe to the philosophy of kaizen, or continuous improvement. Pokemon Platinum was a blast to play, but it had many deficiencies that appeared to be fixed with SoulSilver. SoulSilver fixes many of those problems and includes a Pokewalker that is fun to use and very useful at the same time.
The music quality is excellent and many of the overtures reminded me of the anime. The 3D rendering of Lugia flying through the ocean floor was superb and shows the power of the Nintendo DS/DSi/DSi XL. The in-game graphics are very good although there's not a huge difference from Platinum and other 4th generation games.
The best part about SoulSilver is the updated menu system for items and other in-game activities. Platinum required scrolling a wheel with the stylus that became cumbersome and annoying after doing it for the 300th time.
The bicycle no longer has gears like in Platinum, it's 1 speed only and it works fine. The use of 2 registered items is also a big plus. I frequently like to use the fishing rod and it made no sense to register only 1 item at a time. Now, pressing Y activates your first registered item while you can touch the second one via the menu.
The Pokewalker is a fantastic add-on to the game. I am able to exercise and level up my Pokemon at the same time. The one thing I would change with the walker is allow multiple leveling of Pokemon rather than waste my steps by stopping when it levels up. In addition, allowing the Pokemon to learn moves automatically would save me time as well. Then I could return it to the DS and pick the moves I want to keep. I couldn't get the walker to register steps when I taped it to my ceiling fan, but a lot of people seemed to have found cheats using various contraptions.
The Pokegear system is not very easy to use. The radio isn't intuitive, and the cellphone has to be the dumbest idea ever. Everytime some Joe or Jane schmo calls me up, it's to discuss a mundane topic. The mother calls (if you give her a cut of your earnings) to tell you how she bought you some items and to go pick them up from the Pokemart. The older Pokewatch system from Platinum was very nice and had useful functions.
The Lugia figurine is pretty nice, but I wish the artist would have designed Lugia so that its legs are shown as well.
Pros: Another excellent Pokemon game for the DS, although it is a remake of Silver / Gold. The menu system is vastly improved, and the Pokewalker is fun to use.
Cons: Pokegear is a downgrade from the Pokewatch in Platinum.
Overall: 4/5 -- A great Pokemon remake - lots of improvements over Platinum
