Jam Sessions
Jam Sessions is a ground-breaking music experience that transforms the Nintendo DS system into a portable guitar. Players will literally strum the guitar via the Touch Screen and select chords with the Control Pad. Now even the most ?non-musical? person to become an instant rock star! The portability of the DS system makes Jam Sessions a concert-on-the-go, perfect for parties, commuting to school/work and anywhere people can enjoy music.
Jam Sessions Features
- Not a musician? No problem. Advanced tutorial modes allow novice musicians to learn how to play guitar without paying for lessons! Additional modes will help users understand chord progressions and train them to recognize chords by ear.
- Play and sing songs from some of today and yesterday's most popular artists with accompanying chords and lyrics actually built into the title in Performance Mode.
- Free-play design allows users to learn and play ANY song ever played using an acoustic guitar. What you play is entirely up to you.
- Use the Nintendo DS to make music just as you would with a real guitar, while experiencing authentic, remastered sound modeled after an actual acoustic guitar.
User Reviews about Jam Sessions
I didn't see a comparison review between this game and its sequel. Naturally I first opted for the sequel,
because of the obvious added improvements. But JS2 was uncomfortable to play, no matter how much I adjusted my wrist,
or the way I strummed the touch pad. Later on, I learned that the added improvements were not worth it, since the controls are very uncomfortable
I thought that maybe if I played it long enough, I could get used to it, but I didn't even want to get used
to looking at the ugly rockband/guitar hero style interface.
Finally I gave up and bought Jam Sessions 1, and was glad I did. I'm only a beginner at guitar, and I observed myself
learning more about playing music with a guitar on JS1 than I did on JS2. It doesn't have the added improvements
such as performing arpeggios and a bigger song list, but it wasn't also trying to copy from
the flavor of the month. The first Jam Sessions had its own unique style that stood on its own, Which made me wonder why
the developer all of a sudden decided to try and copy other guitar based rhythm games?
If you're an aspiring guitarist, Jam Sessions 1 is probably going to be one of those games which will make
you proud of owning a DS. I only wish they came out with a Jam Sessions where you can record your own voice,
as you sang and played the guitar. -- Jam Sessions vs Jam Sessions 2
I took guitar lessons in high school, but never fully learned the guitar. With this game I feel like a pro! I know the basic chords on the real guitar, but not the rest. Plus I have tendinitis, so this game helps me a lot! Well sort of lol. I love this game so much. I love playing the piano, and coming up with chords, and just jamming with the game. I haven't played the songs, or the warm ups, because I love free play so much!
There is only one problem with this game. You cannot pick the strings. I hope that if they make a Jam Sessions 2, that they will add this feature. So it is a complete guitar. I mean, wouldn't it be cool to pick during song play? Yes I think so too!
Overall this game deserves its 5 stars! -- i can jam by myself!
Im an actual singer/guitarist, I play in bands and I love music. This is not an actual game, its more like a pocket practice guitar, if you are looking for a game, pickup something like guitar jero (havent played it), but if you have a DS and like playing guitar, pick this one up. I always have it with me since I have to practice a lot of songs for my band. What I love bout this game is that they thought of everything, you can play right or left handed, you can add effects (tremolo, distortion, flanger, chorus, etc, which in my opinion don't sound very good since you are adding effects to an acoustic guitar, it sounds kind of messed up), it is velocity sensitive (the faster you play, the louder it sounds), and you can save your favorite group of notes as a song, so when you come back you can load the notes of the song you want to play and start playing. Keep in mind that this game only give you the chords, you cant do solos or anything like that, just basic chords (there are a lot of them), so if you are new to guitar chords, you'll have to take a lesson somewhere before you pickup this game. Overall a great tool, cheapest guitar youll ever find. -- guitar on the go
